Forestry Mulching
Autumn Cleanup With the Track Loader
Limbs, packed leaves and a summer of scrub ground down into the woodland floor.
Fall leaves a mess on a wooded property. Limbs come down, the leaf layer packs in, and whatever brush grew all summer is still standing there underneath it, just harder to see.
We brought the track loader in and worked the floor of the woods. Downed limbs, leaf litter and the scrub that had come up over the season, all of it ground down and left in place. Nothing got raked into a pile, nothing got hauled to the road.
What’s left is a woodland floor you can walk and a clean line between the trees and the open ground. The mulch layer sits over the top of it, which is exactly where you want organic matter going into winter.
Come spring, that ground is ahead instead of behind. The brush that would have leafed out first is already gone, and what does come up is small enough to stay on top of with a mower.
